Weekly Photo Challenge: Ambience – in Jamaica

Jamaica is an island with plenty of “ambience” – it’s an oddly vague word that means a “feel,” an atmosphere, a quality. When we talk about “vibes” in Jamaica, that is what we are really talking about – whether good or bad. The Beach Boys’ classic  “Good Vibrations” sums it up – and again Brian Wilson is singing about a rather interesting feeling that he hasn’t quite worked out yet. Many years ago I heard them singing this live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London!

But I digress. Here’s just a little touch of Jamaican ambience.

Even beach clean ups can have an ambience - busy, engaged, a little rough sometimes…and especially when a little dancehall "vibe" is involved - here courtesy of Tricia "ZJ Sparks" Spence from Zip FM, seen here conducting an impromptu dance by some of the young ones who had some energy left! Of course, you can create your own ambience - even in a rather dark parking lot on a chilly night. JN Foundation's soft colored lights in a tent gave us all a cozy feel for their dialogue on social enterprise late last year. (My photo)
