Tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, July 25) BirdLife Jamaica will launch its beautiful, updated new poster at 2:30 p.m. Jamaica time (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time).
The poster will illustrate all of Jamaica’s endemic birds. BirdLife Jamaica is the only Jamaican organization specifically interested in the conservation of birds and their habitats. Ten species of Jamaican birds are considered globally threatened, that is, at risk of becoming extinct, and at least two Jamaican species have become extinct since the 1800s. If you want to find out more, and learn to look out for these precious birds
The keynote speaker for the July 25th launch will be Dr. Herbert A. Raffaele, former Chief, Division of International Conservation at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service & author of the amazing book and one of my “Bibles,” Birds of the West Indies (2003). There is also a second edition of the book (Princeton Field Guides), published last year, which I am also proud owner of. Dr. Raffaele is truly iconic and also a tremendous supporter of Caribbean birds and those who care about them. It will be well worth listening to what he has to say.
So, do register now. Put the kettle on for a cup of tea and join BirdLife Jamaica on Sunday afternoon for an enjoyable, informative session. And please follow BirdLife Jamaica on Facebook, Twitter (@Birdlifejamaica) and Instagram.
