The Digicel 5K Run for Special Needs was the first “Night Run” in downtown Kingston, where the company’s headquarters is located. The Eighth Annual Run will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019. The deadline for registration is coming up fast! Meanwhile, Digicel would like to hear from non-profit organizations serving Jamaicans with special needs, to pitch for funding from the profits of the run. Five organizations will be selected. Please see details below, from Digicel Foundation, and please share with any organizations you know.
Kingston, Jamaica – September 17, 2019: A wider grouping of non-profit Special Needs organisations is now able to pitch for funding from the proceeds of the 2019 Digicel 5K Run for Special Needs. Following a change to the selection criteria made by hosts of the event, the Digicel Foundation will no longer make its own selection as to which Special Needs organisations are to benefit. Thus, paving the way for as many of them as possible to apply for five funding opportunities valued at up to J$2.5 million.
Giving reasons for the change, CEO of the Digicel Foundation, Karlene Dawson, explained, “By soliciting applications, we’re hoping to attract even more potential beneficiaries and get a diverse range of functioning Special Needs organisations in order to address more of the needs within the community and make a much wider, positive impact.”
The revised format also gives potential race participants added incentive to sign up and support their preferred cause, knowing that it could stand a chance of being selected.
With up to $2.5 million in funding available to each of the five Special Needs organisations to be selected, these groups will be able to do much to upgrade school infrastructure, add or improve digital learning spaces, renovate other facilities, and implement new learning programmes.
Since its inception in 2012, the Digicel 5K has donated over $49 million dollars as proceeds from the annual event to various Special Needs organisations across Jamaica. The funds have gone a long way to make significant improvements to lives of persons with Special Needs and the places where they learn and develop skills.
Applicants should go to the Digicel Foundation’s website at www.digicelfoundation.org/jamaica to download and complete an application, then submit via email to email@example.com by Monday, September 30, 2019.
