Wednesday Night is Politics Night

Political junkies! Tomorrow night (Wednesday, October 19) could be your night, whether you are focused on home or abroad.

Firstly, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Department of Government, in association with Ian Randle Publishers and National Integrity Action (NIA) will host a Symposium on Political Leadership, including the official launch of Michael Manley: The Biography at 6:00 p.m. at UWI Regional Headquarters. There will be four political panelists (including two Samudas!) and NIA founder Professor Trevor Munroe will moderate the discussion. I posted my review of this fascinating book on this blog here. I learned a great deal from the book about the man and the times he lived in.

Secondly, the third and final U.S. Presidential Debate will take place tomorrow night, broadcasting to millions! The 51% Coalition, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica, has already hosted two viewing and discussion sessions with Jamaican audiences (skipping the Vice Presidential Debate, which was affected by Hurricane Matthew). The last “Dinner and a Debate” was very lively, with audience members creating a debate of their own after the viewing. Tomorrow’s will take place at Phoenix Central, 2 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, but RSVP is required to the two email addresses on the invitation. Hopefully, weather permitting, this will be on the rooftop of Phoenix Central, with the evening breeze and twinkling city lights!

Enjoy your dose of U.S. and/or Jamaican politics this week, all!
