Jamaica is celebrating International Women’s Day in a slightly different way this year. One of our terrific non-governmental organizations, the Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre (WROC) is partnering with the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) Institute of Gender & Development Studies, the Bureau of Women’s Affairs and the United Nations Population Fund in a special celebration and expo, with all kinds of interesting and fun activities planned.

The event will take place on UWI’s Mona Campus in Kingston. The guest speaker to kick off the proceedings will be Ms. Jacqueline Sharp, who is the first woman CEO/President of Scotiabank Group Jamaica – a major private sector entity.
Join us for a celebration and sharing, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are very much hoping to see you there! Bring the family. (Oh…and it’s all free!)

Dear Pechary. Thanks for keeping the issue with the Executive Director of the Bureau of Women’s Affairs alive. Its an obvious case of injustice which is commonplace these days. Her position was a very coveted one. The truth is, a big blunder was made and now they have to try and cover up the mess by trying to vilify her. Even a blind person can see that. Why so much silence? Leave it to their conscience if they have any. Don’t worry the truth must prevail because the Lord has the final say.

Hi Carline: I don’t know all the details and exactly what led up to this situation – it seems unfathomable to me though that someone who had worked so hard in the Bureau for so many years could be suddenly victimized in this way. There is something very wrong. But as you say, I think the truth will prevail, despite the veil of silence…
