My mid-week commentary is just not going to happen at this point. I have had many pleasant distractions to start the year, including a young visitor whose company we have enjoyed. When he leaves on Sunday, I will return to my writing routine, and you shall have your Sunday commentary on time. I promise!
Meanwhile, here are a few photographs I took on our ramblings with visitor… They aren’t quite over, yet.
Punkin`and chicken foot don’t appeal to you?!?! Goodness, I think your passport should be re-examined. i have never had a better soup anywhere than the soups of Jamaica. And pumpkin and chicken-foot have to be among the best. ( Along with Portland’s red pea, Busso, crayfish, and the soup at Farmers’ bar on Red Hills rd.outside of Port Antonio.
i still remember an early trip through the Port Antonio market, on a Sat. in the ’90s, when I first saw a table (about the size of what we call a “card table”) heaped high with chicken feet. I was impressed…. And I have never tasted better chicken soup than that made with chicken foot– feet. (And yes, I do eat the foot–happily sucking the bones clean.).
petchary– you’re sounding a bit ‘uptown’ 😉
Yes, I suppose I DO sound a bit uptown!! Can’t deny it. But I am generally really fussy about any kind of meat or part of an animal, I’ve always been that way. I know that chicken soup does taste good with chicken foot in it and have eaten it (but no, not eating the foot itself!!) YES, I know the bar that sells the soup with janga etc in it on that road outside Port Antonio. Our son used to love that soup – in fact, somewhere I have a photo of him and my husband sitting down outside the bar with a big bowl each… Not sure if they still do the soup, it used to be only on weekends.
You have now been added to my bucket list, a place I would love to visit. The first picture is beautiful, especially as I look out my window and see only snow & slush.
Thanks. Yes, we should be on that list! Blue Lagoon is really amazing. The colors are so rich and always changing. I didn’t notice the sunlight filtering through the leaves onto the water until I looked at the photo afterwards. Hope your snow and slush departs soon!
Friendship gap and frenchman cove just made my bucket list.

They are a worthy addition to the list (don’t make it too long!)

Yes, I think they were preparing the vegetables for a soup.
