Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (born 15 September 1977) is a Nigerian writer.

She is Igbo. She has been called "the most prominent" of a "procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature".

Born in the town of Enugu, she grew up in the university town of Nsukka in southeastern Nigeria, where the University of Nigeria is situated.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie visited Jamaica earlier this year for the Calabash International Literary Festival. She is a marvelously accomplished and evocative writer. "Half of a Yellow Sun" is one of my favorite novels, set in the time of the Biafran war - a time of great turmoil. I highly recommend it.

  1. Dear Chimamanda
I am assisting in putting together a television series called African Heritage – The Book Club Series. This series will be viewed on M-Net.
We have a wealth of books written by the people of Africa. How do we decide who to portray on the television production called The Book Club Series?
The books and authors that have been recommended all have a powerful message to give to Africa as a whole. These books will drive forward the message that the future is not a place that we are going to go to, but a place that we are going to create.
Through our diverse stories we touch each other’s lives and these stories can go a long way into healing our continent. The books to be portrayed in The Book Club Series are written by thoughtful, committed citizens who through their stories are orchestrating a new way of living, creating a new music – perhaps not perfect, but music that will allow our children to dance into a secure future.
I would like to your book Purple Hibiscus on The Book Club Series, please will you contact me on my work number + 27 33 347 2247 or e-mail me on di@awesomesa.co.za . We hope to start filming this series by mid- August.
    With warmest wishes,
    Di Smith.

    1. Hello Di: I am not Ms. Adichie and this is not her blog. But perhaps you could contact her directly – through her agent. It sounds like a great plan and I hope you are able to work with this wonderful author.
      Best regards,
      Emma

  2. Is Di serious? Anyway, my fellow Igbo sister Chimamanda rocks! She is a new generation of African writer and I love her dearly. ;-)

    1. Yes – she was quite a hit in Jamaica at the beginning of the summer!
